To provide the best service to both communities there is now industry support for greater use of common technology and work in 3GPP standards Release 12 enhances LTE to meet public safety application requirements.
The need to provide reliable broadband communications for emergency services is recognized by government agencies worldwide. LTE can deliver the enriched multimedia tools and applications demanded by public safety personnel and meet the needs of critical communications systems. Thanks to its global economies of scale and large volumes, LTE offers both users and service providers the benefits of a single communications network that can provide multiple applications and services at low cost.
TCCA (TETRA & Critical Communications Association) strongly supports development of common, global standards, based on LTE, for the future of critical communications worldwide.
3GPP Release 12 includes two major work items related to critical communications and public safety:
1/ enabling direct communications between devices (ProSe)
2) enabling group communications
