Operators worldwide are investing in LTE-Advanced systems and peak speeds are increasing.
GSA’s Evolution to LTE report published on 9 April 2015 confirmed that 116 operators i.e. 30% of LTE operators, have launched, or are deploying or are trialling LTE-Advanced technologies in 55 countries. This figure includes 64 operators that have commercially launched LTE-Advanced carrier aggregation in 39 countries.
This paper from GSA summarises the theoretical peak downlink speed for each of the commercially launched LTE-Advanced networks worldwide, according to research by GSA.
With a focus on Category 6 systems (theoretical peak downlink speed > 150 Mbps up to 300 Mbps) analysis of the data confirms that 52 operators have launched Category 6 systems and an additional 38 additional Cat 6 networks are in deployment, trial or test phase as listed in the paper.
The paper also confirms that 13 Category 9 systems (theoretical peak downlink speed > 300 Mbps up to 450 Mbps) are in deployment, trial or test phase. Capabilities beyond Cat 9 have also been demonstrated in a number of multiband multimode LTE-Advanced trials.
