GSA confirms LTE connects almost 1 in 4 mobile subscribers worldwide: Q4 2016
GSA, the Global mobile Suppliers Association, confirms that LTE technology continues to dominate mobile growth and now connects almost 1 in 4 mobile subscribers globally. By the end of Q3 2016 the total LTE subscriptions worldwide had reached 1.683 billion, an increase of 230 million over the 2Q figures. GSA analysed mobile subscriptions data provided to GSA by Ovum Ltd for Q3 2016.
The Asia region continues to lead LTE adoption with 58% market share, a slight increase in the previous quarter figures. North America now accounts for 16.8% market share, while Europe is steady at 13.9%. Good growth has been seen in Latina America & Caribbean, now at 5.8% with Middle East and Africa increasing to 5.5%.
Joe Barrett, President, GSA said: “GSA continues to predict that the number of LTE and LTE-Advanced subscriptions worldwide will pass the 3G/WCDMA-HSPA global total in 2019.”
