5G Experience November 2023
This report, using Opensignal’s data, shows the current picture for 5G aspects such as availability, download and upload speeds and video and gaming experience.
5G Availability
Opensignal’s 5G Availability metrics are not measures of a network’s geographical reach. Instead, they measure the proportion of time that people have a network connection in the places they most commonly frequent.
The report shows the top operators globally for 5G Availability, the percentage of time their users had a 5G connection. T-Mobile Puerto Rico offers the highest level of 5G availability, with users able to access the service 62.5% of the time. T-Mobile US (51.6%), KT (47.2%), STC (44.7%) and Ooredoo (40.4%) make up the rest of the top five operators for 5G availability. None of the highest-performing operators are in Europe.
Opensignal’s Download and Upload Speed experience are both measured in Mbps and represent the typical everyday speeds a user experiences across an operator’s mobile data networks. Again, Asian operators, particularly in South Korea and Malaysia, are offering their users the best average 5G download speeds. SK Telecom in South Korea leads with speeds of 472 Mbps, followed by Digi in Malaysia with 440.7 Mbps and A1 in Bulgaria with 428.3 Mbps.
