5G Global Spectrum Report:

At present, GSA is aware of 71 countries (or territories, special administrative regions, disputed territories and dependencies) actively considering suitable spectrum for 5G (whether dedicated to 5G or made available through a technology-neutral licence).  This figure excludes such initiatives in relation to spectrum that is being allocated primarily for the provision of 3G or 4G services. Some countries have multiple initiatives underway.

Important changes since the last report include:

  • Cuba: private wireless networks in two spectrum bands authorised.
  • Colombia: 5G plan expected before the end of 2019.
  • Mozambique: TV-White Space standards enabling the use of white space spectrum from 470 MHz to 694 MHz approved.
  • Poland: consultation on lots for 3400–3800 MHz auction launched.
  • Romania: consultation on technical details of its upcoming spectrum auction announced.
  • Russia: regulator refused operators’ applications to run new 5G tests in spectrum between 3400 MHz and 3800 MHz; indicative timetable for first 5G spectrum auction published.
  • Slovakia: 700 MHz auction timetable updated and consultation on auction of spectrum in other bands for 4G and 5G launched.
  • South Africa: consultant to value various spectrum bands sought.
  • Taiwan: draft plans for 5G spectrum auction published.
  • Vietnam: consultation on auction of spectrum at 2.6 GHz (for 4G) launched.

This report is based on data collected and stored in the GAMBoD database

GAMBoD, the GSA Analyser for Mobile Broadband Data, is a unique search and analysis tool we developed to support our Members and Associates with the most up to date information on 4G & 5G devices networks, technologies and spectrum. Search results are presented as a list, or as a spreadsheet, or in charts that may be inserted into documents or presentations, subject to accreditation of GSA as the source.

The LTE Devices database can be searched by supplier, form factor, features, peak downlink and uplink speeds, and operating frequency. The NTS (Networks, Technologies & Spectrum) database can be searched by MBB technology, feature, UE category, downlink speed, spectrum bands used and can be segmented by region. Results are presented as a list or in charts. Charts may be inserted into documents or presentations, subject to accreditation of GSA as the source.

GAMBoD is a resource dedicated to promoting the success and growth of the MBB industry and ecosystem and is fully available to all employees of GSA Executive and Ordinary Member companies and GSA Associates who subscribe to the service.
