5G spectrum awards:

Countries across Europe are releasing the 3400-3800 MHz band for public mobile networks. This band, together with the 700 MHz and 24.25-27.5 GHz ranges, is key for the development of 5G in Europe.

In this paper, the GSA provides its recommendations for regulators and governments engaged in the release process. The GSA recommends notably to enable contiguous blocks of at least 80/100 MHz per network, to support 5G use cases and maximise efficient spectrum use. GSA also advises that spectrum for public networks should be made available on an individual and national basis. The objectives of awards of spectrum in this band should be to stimulate spectrum usage and maximize benefit for society, and not to maximize revenue.
