5G is being launched worldwide
• By December 2021, GSA had identified 481 operators in 144 countries/territories that were investing in 5G, up from 412 operators at the end of 2020
• Of those, a total of 189 operators in 74 countries/territories had launched one or more 3GPP-compliant 5G services, up by 40% from 135 in a year
• Plus five soft launches
• 177 operators had launched 5G mobile services, with the others offering 5G FWA
• In addition to those already fully launched, 57 operators in 46 countries catalogued as actively deploying 5G
• Over 200 launched 5G networks within Q1 2022?
• 98 operators are investing in 5G standalone for public networks; 47 operators known to be actively deploying 5G SA
FWA is a key element of the 5G service package
• GSA has catalogued 81 operators that are marketing residential or business 5G FWA broadband services, up more than 84% from 44 in 12 months
• 32% of service providers promote speed only based tariff structures and 36% promote volume-only based tariff structures. Nearly 9% of all service providers offer both volume and speed based tariff structures
• Quoted peak speeds ranged from 50 Mbps to 4200 Mbps DL, with just over half of them sitting in the 250 Mbps to 1000 Mbps range
