More 5G silicon is starting to appear and an increase in high end LTE chipsets as devices start to support Cat-16
Since our last report in June there has been further activity. Joining Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X50 and Intel’s XMM 8060 modem chipsets are Samsung’s Exynos 5100 and MediaTek’s Helio M70. Hi-Silicon’s Balong 5G01 was also noted in our last report. Precise commercial status of these chipsets, and of mobile platforms that integrate these modems, is difficult to confirm at present, but there is now some 5G user equipment available in limited volumes (for instance from Huawei and Samsung), and we expect Samsung’s, Hi-Silicon’s and and Qualcomm’s products are being used in some of these devices. MediaTek says that devices using its Helio M70 modem will be commercially available in 2019.
