Operators worldwide are investing in LTE-Advanced systems and peak speeds are increasing.
GSA’s Evolution to LTE report published on 7 January 2015 confirmed that 107 operators in total, i.e. almost 30% of LTE operators have launched, are deploying or are trialling LTE-Advanced technologies. This includes 49 operators that have commercially launched LTE-Advanced carrier aggregation in 31 countries.
This new paper from GSA summarises the theoretical peak downlink speed of each of the commercially launched LTE-Advanced networks. Analysis of this data shows that 20 operators have launched Category 6 systems (300 Mbps).
An additional 22 additional Cat 6 networks are in deployment, trial or test phase and are listed in the paper.
The paper also confirms that 9 Category 9 systems (up to 450 Mbps) are in deployment, trial or test phase. Capabilities beyond Cat 9 have already been demonstrated in a number of multiband multimode LTE-Advanced trials.
