The first phase of 5G has been specified, trials and the knowledge building are well underway and the subsequent commercial services are planned from 2019 onwards in Asia and North America in frequency ranges around 26 GHz. Countries such as Korea, the US, Japan, China and Canada will be launching 5G and it is therefore of vital importance for European competitiveness that European countries act decisively and in unity. This paper is focused on Europe and on the deployment of 5G in the 26 GHz (24.25 – 27.5 GHz) band.
