The GSA attended the XIII International Business Forum “Wireless Russia & CIS: LTE, 5G and IoT Networks” to discuss wireless communications development in the region

London, UK – June, 9th – On May 27-28, 2021, the GSA attended the XIII International Business Forum “Wireless Russia & CIS: LTE, 5G and IoT Networks” hosted by ComNews Information Group in Moscow.

The forum was supported by key developers of 5G technologies and some of our association members. Huawei, Ericsson, Nokia, Qualcomm, Gilat Satellite Networks, IskraTel company and STC Protey were the session sponsors, also the forum was held with the participation of Moskabel-Fujikura, CompTek and NTR company.

Associations such as 3GPP, GSA, LoRa Alliance, NGMN Alliance, Wireless Broadband Alliance, Wireless Ukraine Association, as well as the Russian Association of Internet of Things Market Participants (iotas), “yaITy” CIO&CDOs club, and the International Academy of Communications also supported event.

At the plenary session on May 27 the first developments in the field of 6G technologies and the future of wireless technologies were presented by Joe Barrett, President, Global mobile Suppliers Association (GSA), Wangshi Chen, Chairman of the working group on Radio Access Networks (TSG RAN), 3GPP, Mario Manevich, Director of the Radiocommunication Bureau, International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and Feifei Lu, Executive Program Manager, The Next Generation Mobile Networks (NGMN) Alliance.

The discussion was even taken further as Tair Ismailov, Director for Strategic Cooperation in Russia and the CIS, GSM Association (GSMA), spoke about the world experience in issuing frequencies. Rashid Ismailov, President, VimpelCom (VEON Group), noted that the domestic production in Russia has a chance, providing that there is public investment, to become competitive by the time of the launch of 6G networks.

“Attending and participating in this event focusing on Russia and the CIS region was highly insightful for all of the industry players. I was impressed by all of the expertise that was share and felt privileged to be able to read and learn about the findings of all of those in-depth reports,” commented Joe Barrett. “Wireless Russia & CIS, is the place where we, as industry, could discuss, exchange, learn and most importantly connect to make 5G and 6G a reality in that region. I am looking forward to next year’s event to see how the market has advanced.”
