5G in Review – December 2025 GSA Webinar

5G has matured from initial rollouts in 2019 to a foundational pillar of the digital economy, while GSA has identified 647 operators in 191 countries and territories investing in 5G.

  • 384 operators have launched one or more 3GPP-compliant 5G services.

The technology is now shifting from widespread coverage to advanced capabilities, with 5G Standalone (SA) and 5G-Advanced (5G-A) enabling new applications across various industries.

  • 358 operators have launched 5G mobile services.
  • Mobile phones make up more than half of all 5G devices, followed by modules (10%).

5G Standalone

  • GSA has identified 181 operators in 73 countries and territories worldwide that are investing in public 5G standalone networks.
  • At least 85 operators in 47 countries and territories are understood to have launched public 5G standalone networks.
  • Five operators are deploying 5G standalone networks.
