The 5G device market continues to expand rapidly, but the more meaningful story is how it is broadening.

Smartphones remain the anchor of the ecosystem, yet growth in industrial routers, modules and FWA equipment shows that 5G is increasingly supporting a wider range of consumer, enterprise and industrial applications. As spectrum support deepens across the installed base, the device ecosystem is becoming more aligned with the practical realities of global 5G deployment.

5G Devices

Key Industry Data – as of 20th April 2026

4256 announced 5G devices, up 24% from last year. In comparison, total LTE devices numbered 29,024.
80 % of all commercial 5G devices are identified as supporting sub-6 GHz spectrum bands, 10% are understood to support millimetre-wave spectrum and 4% are known to support both millimetre-wave and sub-6 GHz spectrum band.

Phones made up 52.9% of all commercial devices, followed by industrial routers (10.0%) and modules (9.7%). Fixed wireless access CPEs made up 8.0% of total announced devices whilst tablets made up 3.5%. Hotspots contributed less than 3% to the total announced 5G devices whilst laptops (notebooks), USB modems and in-vehicle routers/modems/hot spots made up just under 1% apiece.

Phones made up 52.3% in March 2025 and remains the most dominant 5G category. Since last year, the share of 5G modules has fallen and the share of 5G industrial routers has grown.

As of March 2026, GSA identified 9 chipsets with 5G RedCap capabilities. We have additionally tracked 26 modules and 33 end-user devices with 5G RedCap capabilities. The device ecosystem is growing, and GSA expects a further increase during 2026.

Spectrum support has been announced for over 93% of all commercial devices.

The number of devices with support for band n78 (3500 MHz) has now reached 3,281 and there are 3,082 devices identified as supporting band n41 (2500 MHz).

Band n1 (2100 MHz) is supported by 2,932 devices, and band n77 (3700 MHz) is not far behind, with 2,909 announced devices. The number of announced devices with support for band n28 (700 MHz) has risen to 2,784. Bands n3 (1800 MHz) and n5 (850 MHz) represent 2,694 and 2,624 announced devices, respectively.
