Regional Update – Europe December 2025
The December 2025 edition of GSA’s Region Spotlight: Europe highlights an advanced telecom sector. The continent has achieved universal LTE coverage and strong LTE-Advanced adoption, and operators are now accelerating toward next-generation networks. This report provides a detailed look at Europe’s progress, highlighting how investment in 5G and emerging technologies is shaping the continent’s digital future.
The region accounts for more than one-third of all launched 5G networks and shows strong momentum toward 5G standalone. With 79 operators in 32 countries investing in 5G standalone technology, Europe is ahead of many regions in adopting this next-generation architecture. Countries like Germany, the United Kingdom and France are leading the charge, and GSA expects further launches in 2026 to enable advanced capabilities such as network slicing and 5G-Advanced trials.
Private mobile networks are gaining traction, with industries such as manufacturing, education and rail driving adoption in Europe. Additionally, spectrum auctions and the planned switch-off of 2G and 3G networks signal a shift toward more efficient, sustainable infrastructure.
These developments, combined with emerging satellite partnerships and fixed wireless access growth, position Europe as a leader in next-generation connectivity.
