After a slow 2016, last year saw some developments in the market for Enhanced-Voice-Services-enabled technologies and networks. The number of telecom operators known by GSA to be investing in the technology increased during 2017 from three to 17, with Enhanced Voice Services (EVS) deployments in Europe, Asia and the USA. On a national level, Germany, Japan and USA are the most active EVS markets so far, each with two commercial deployments. The increased interest in EVS in the operator world has been reciprocated by device launches by the vendors. We have identified 34 EVS enabled devices in the market, all of them phones. Enhanced Voice Services are often marketed around the world using terms such as ‘HD Voice Plus’ or ‘Ultra HD Voice’.
As of March 2018:
- 17 operators are known to have been investing in EVS demonstrations, planned launches or launches
- 14 of those operators have introduced EVS services in their mobile networks
- 34 EVS enabled mobile handsets are currently available in the market, from a set of 11 vendors.
