Spectrum: 1400-1500 MHz: November Snapshot

Spectrum in the 1400-1500 MHz range (1427-1518 MHz, including bands 11, 21, 32, 45, 50, 51, 74, 75, 76 and n50, 51, n74, n75, n76, n91, n92, n93 & n94) is of interest for mobile services, and although the market is at an early stage, an increasing number of countries are considering this spectrum for IMT:

• 1427-1452 MHz: Identified for IMT globally
• 1452-1492 MHz: Identified for IMT globally except CEPT countries
• 1492-1518 MHz: Identified for IMT globally
• The ASMG has been considering the full range of 1427-1518 MHz for IMT

This document shows GSA’s current understanding of the state of mobile operator licensing around the world at 1400-1500 MHz.

The following definitions are used:

• Considering/consulting on options: In the early stages of deciding if, what and when to make spectrum in this range available.
• Planned assignment: A definite decision has been made to assign spectrum in this range. Now in the assignment preparation stage, which can include further consultations on which specific blocks within the range to assign, finalising the band plan, how to assign, details of the assignment process, price setting etc.
• Ongoing assignment: Requests/invitations to participate have been issued, with definite date for auction/assignment proceedings.
• Assigned: Used where spectrum has been assigned nationwide or regionally, with individual licensing for public mobile or FWA networks.
• Precise range to be confirmed: Activity or assignments are known, but the exact spectrum ranges concerned are to be clarified.
• Temporarily assigned to test/trial: Spectrum has been temporarily assigned for the purpose of running tests and/or trails
