Chipsets Report June 2025

GSA’s latest Chipsets report confirms that the number of 5G chipsets increased steadily throughout 2023 and 2024, albeit at a much slower rate. GSA expects growth to continue throughout the rest of 2025, with new modems and mobile processors and platforms due from several players. This will continue to underpin the increasingly broad choice of commercially available 5G devices.

GSA closely monitors 5G chipset capabilities, including support for standalone networks. Among commercially available 5G chipsets, 79% explicitly state support for 5G standalone networks. While detailed information on spectrum support and other features varies, 21 chipsets are known to support voice over New Radio.

Apart from 5G-capable chipsets, GSA has identified 41 commercially available discrete LTE modem chipsets from eight vendors. However, the largest category in the GSA database comprises commercially launched LTE mobile processors and platforms, excluding those specifically designed for IoT applications and those capable of 5G. A total of 374 such chipsets come from 26 vendors.

Other trends highlighted in this update include support for VoLTE, eMBMS and unlicensed spectrum, along with 3GPP IoT chipsets.

A full list of the identified commercially available and pre-commercial LTE and 5G mobile processors and platforms and discrete modems, along with data about 3GPP IoT chipsets, is available to GSA members and associates in the Chipset section of GSA’s GAMBoD database updated in May 2025.
