Chipset Update May 2026
The latest edition of GSA’s LTE, 5G and 3GPP IoT Chipsets report shows a significant growth in both 5G New Radio (NR) mobile platforms and 5G discrete cellular modems. Since the previous update in December 2025, the number of commercially available 5G mobile platforms has grown by 18% and 5G discrete cellular modems are up by 28%. Eight suppliers now offer 5G modems and platforms.
GSA has identified 175 commercially available 5G mobile platforms and 32 discrete 5G modems, with a clear trend toward increased adoption of discrete 5G modem solutions in new platforms. Over 220 chipsets are compatible with 5G standalone networks, demonstrating strong growth in the segment. Feature tracking also shows 59 chipsets supporting VoNR, 140 supporting sub-6 GHz bands and 89 offering millimetre-wave capabilities.
There are 27 discrete LTE modems and 234 LTE mobile platforms on the market, highlighting the strong focus on LTE. In parallel, GSA has identified 60 dedicated 3GPP IoT chipsets spanning LTE Cat-1, Cat-M1 and NB-IoT.
A full list of the identified commercially available LTE and 5G mobile platforms and discrete modems is available, along with data about 3GPP IoT chipsets, to GSA members and associates in the GAMBoD database.
