Key Messages in 2Q26

GSA counts customer references as unique organisations or government entities deploying one or more 3GPP-based 4G LTE or 5G networks in a given country or territory that are worth more than €100,000. From May 2024, GSA also counts customer references that are worth between €50,000 and €100,000, some of which may include trials. Data for references worth between €50,000 and €100,000 is relevant only from 2024.
The total number of GSA customer references deploying at least one network as of 2Q26 is 2,031. A further 180 references are worth between €50,000 and €100,000. Net additions worth over €100,000 in the quarter were 28 customer references and those between €50,000 and €100,000 were two references. This does not consider increases in the number of sites or new revenue opportunities from existing customers.
One vendor did not contribute to this update, and another made only a partial submission owing to a temporary change in reporting lines. We estimate that these omissions would have accounted for 20% to 30% of expected references in the quarter. We anticipate that these references will be backdated in the next update of this report.
Additional data has been added to the database and 1,709 references now include country detail, representing 85% of all references. There are now 88 countries identified by GSA as having at least one private mobile network.
Of the top 10 reporting countries, the number of customers in Canada and Australia each grew by 4% in 2Q26, followed by the United Kingdom, which grew by 3%. Spain and the United States each increased by 2% and Germany by 1%.
On average, 77% of references included in the database are non-public and unique, submitted by members of the GSA Private Mobile Networks Special Interest Group (SIG). This number is higher for some industries, with more than 80% of references in sectors such as military and defence, maritime and power plants not accessible in the public domain.
The SIG now represents 17 organisations, including 450Alliance, 5G-ACIA, AiLink, Airspan, Celona, Dell, Ericsson, GSMA, JMA Wireless, Keysight Technologies, Mavenir, Monogoto, Nokia, OnGo Alliance, OneLayer, PrivateLTEand5G.com and TCCA.
Seaports added eight new references in the quarter and manufacturing added six . Hospitality added three references. Manufacturing, education and academic research and mining remain the top three sectors for customer references, although this does not represent the actual size and scale of deployments, which vary by user type.
There is typically a strong, positive correlation between the number of private mobile network references and countries with dedicated spectrum. Private mobile network deployments are mainly in high-income and upper-middle-income countries, with the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, China and Japan having the most references. It is sometimes reported that China has a high number of networks, reaching over 40,000, but we believe a large portion of those networks use the public network and therefore do not meet our definition.
