LTE-Advanced Carrier Aggregation Deployments: Peak Speeds

Operators worldwide are investing in LTE-Advanced systems and peak speeds are increasing. GSA's Evolution to LTE report published on 7 January 2015 confirmed that 107 operators in total, i.e. almost 30% of LTE operators have launched, are deploying or are trialling LTE-Advanced technologies. This includes 49 operators that have commercially launched LTE-Advanced carrier aggregation in 31 countries. This new paper from GSA summarises the theoretical peak downlink speed of each of the commercially launched LTE-Advanced networks. Analysis of this data shows that 20 operators have launched Category 6 systems (300 Mbps). An additional 22 additional…

5G Radio Access System Design Aspects

5G Radio Access System Design Aspects Nokia Networks white paper Summary 5G will be an ultra-fast and ultra-flexible communication network including different technologies, but will be transparent for the end user and easy to manage for the operator. Additionally, 5G needs to address the predicted large increase in data traffic and will have to fulfil the capacity, data rate and latency requirements of next- generation devices. To enable the capacity and data rate requirements for 5G, new spectrum bands are required, along with the massive densification of small cells. Ultra dense small cells will be…

    LTE-Advanced Carrier Aggregation Optimization

Carrier aggregation (CA) is the most important feature in LTE-Advanced because it improves the practical data rates, enhances network capacity, simplifies traffic management and extends the coverage area and provides a very robust performance in live networks. CA was defined in 3GPP Release 10. This white paper explains LTE-Advanced carrier aggregation technology and its evolution, beginning with the combination of FDD or TDD bands through to combining both FDD and TDD bands together as well as licensed and unlicensed frequencies. The practical performance of CA and optimization steps are also discussed. © Nokia 2015 This…
