26GHz and 28GHz January 2022. National Spectrum Positions.

These charts show GSA’s current understanding of the state of 5G and 5G-relevant (i.e., technology neutral) licensing around the world in the 26/28 GHz bands.
They do not provide data about other allocations of the spectrum in these ranges – e.g., for fixed wireless access services, point-to-point links, or for satellite or governmental use.

The following definitions are used:

  • Assigned: Spectrum has been assigned nationwide or regionally, with individual licensing for public mobile or FWA networks.
  • Planned assignment: A definite decision has been made to assign spectrum in this range. Now in the assignment preparation stage, which can include further consultations on which specific blocks within the range to assign, finalising the band plan, how to assign, details of the assignment process, price setting etc.
  • Considering/consulting on options: In the early stages of deciding if, what, and when to make spectrum in this range available.
  • Temporarily assigned to test/trial: Spectrum has been temporarily assigned for the purpose of running tests and/or trails.
  • Ongoing assignment: Spectrum is in the process of being assigned. Requests/invitations to participate in the assignment have been issued, with definite date for auction/assignment proceedings.
  • Ongoing Consultation: A public consultation has been opened to decide if, what, and when to make spectrum in this range available.
  • Local/private licensing: spectrum set aside for individual licensing on a local basis.
  • Identified for IMT:  Spectrum in this range has been identified for use for IMT services.
  • Shared spectrum: The spectrum is shared among multiple users, including users of different categories.
  • Planned assignment (local/private networks): A definite decision has been made to assign spectrum in this range, for the purpose of individual licensing on a local basis. Now in the assignment preparation stage, which can include further consultations on which specific blocks within the range to assign, finalising the band plan, how to assign, details of the assignment process, price setting etc.
  • Precise range to be confirmed: Activity or assignments are known, but the exact spectrum ranges concerned are to be clarified.
