FWA Market – June 2026

This report provides an overview of the global status of the fixed wireless access (FWA) market. It brings updates about the availability of FWA broadband services based on LTE and 5G; tariff structures; service portability; service speeds and device support for FWA. This research was carried out in June 2026.

Highlights from this update:

  • In FWA broadband services, GSA has identified announced service offers from 542 operators in 180 countries and territories, and launched services from 514 operators in 179 countries and territories.
  • Europe and the Middle East and Africa have the highest number of operators delivering FWA services using LTE or 5G.
  • More than 40% of tariffs for LTE FWA are based on data volume, with speed-based structures favoured by just over 26% of operators. The difference is less distinct with 5G FWA.
  • The average of the marketed maximum peak download speeds for LTE FWA was 140.0 Mbps, down from 152.1 Mbps in November 2025, based on data for 341 operators. For 5G-based offerings, the average maximum peak download speed was 774.7 Mbps, down from 851.3 Mbps.

Since the early 2000s, operators have offered fixed wireless access (FWA) using mobile networks. As networks have developed and become more advanced with the transition from LTE to LTE-Advanced and then to 5G, interest in FWA has increased.

FWA is used to deliver services in locations that are poorly served or not served at all by fixed-line broadband technologies based on copper, coax or fibre. In a relatively short time, FWA broadband has become a mainstream service offer. The technology is considered complementary to more-traditional fixed-broadband services.

Many wireless broadband services now use mobile technologies to help provide the main broadband connection for a home or business. This takes the form of an FWA service delivered to a mains-powered customer premises equipment (CPE) device. The CPE in turn provides local connectivity to other devices, typically over Wi-Fi.

GSA has been tracking this market to determine the evolving extent and nature of availability of FWA broadband services based on LTE or 5G technologies worldwide. This report explores the high-level findings; the full data set is available to GSA members in the annex.

The full data set is available to Associates and Members in Excel format.

This report will be updated in the first half of 2027. If you would like to share information about new FWA devices or service launches, please let us know at research@gsacom.com.
