2017 saw some significant developments within the LTE Broadcast ecosystem, and while the operator community has yet to deploy services en masse, the market is poised for operators to enable eMBMS functions.
There has been continuing interest in eMBMS for Mission-Critical Push-to-Talk (MCPTT) uses. ENENSYS, Expway and ETSI are all demonstrating and trialling the technology.
The chipset ecosystem has evolved to the point where device manufacturers have a choice of chipsets offering eMBMS support. There remains a steady amount of LTE-Broadcast-capable chipsets, modules being released, and slowly, the device’s ecosystem is expanding too. Notable releases since the last report are Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 mobile platform and X24 cellular modem and the MediaTek Helios P60 platform.
