GSA and 5G-ACIA cooperate to support the advancement of 5G public and private mobile networks

London, UK, Frankfurt, Germany – The Global mobile Suppliers Association (GSA) and the 5G Alliance for Connected Industries and Automation (5G-ACIA) have signed a Cooperation Agreement to deliver information sharing and access to resources. The partnership will see information on 5G networks and devices shared between GSA and the 5G-ACIA. In addition to publishing joint research reports and feeding data into GAMBoD, the cooperation will also see 5G-ACIA regularly contributing insights to support the work of GSA’s recently formed Private Networks Working Group Partner.

As part of its ongoing research in the uptake of 5G across connected industries, GSA is tracking at least 889 organisations deploying LTE or 5G Private Mobile Networks in one or more locations. To date, GSA has identified 66 mobile operators and 70 countries/territories in which organisations are involved with Private Mobile Network projects. On a quarterly basis GSA publishes a database of GSA customer references segmented by industry type, region, technology and more, and 58% which are anonymised and will not be found in the public domain.

The mobile ecosystem has driven a rapid growth in the numbers and types of 5G devices that have been publicly announced and launched, seeing an increase by 3.8% between August 2022 and September 2022 to reach a total of 1,579 devices and rising. Globally, GSA has recorded data on 505 operators in 155 countries and territories that investing in 5G networks.

“Connectivity is a key component of Industry 4.0 which aims to significantly improve the flexibility, versatility, usability and efficiency of future smart factories and industrial plants,” started Dr Andreas Mueller, General Chair of 5G-ACIA “Industrial 5G is being applied to a constantly evolving range of use cases, taking advantage of its unprecedented reliability and very low latencies, as well as massive IoT connectivity. By partnering with GSA, the two organisations are combining the unrivalled sector expertise and insights of our communities to help drive and shape the global evolution of industrial 5G.”

The GSA GAMBoD database is a unique search and analysis tool that contains the latest global data on 4G/5G spectrum, networks, devices and chipsets. The devices database can be searched by supplier, form factor, features, peak downlink and uplink speeds, and operating frequency band. Now, following this cooperation agreement between GSA and GCF, GAMBoD data will be complemented with the addition of data from 5G-ACIA on the application of 5G across connected industries.

“The success of the ICT industry has been built on the foundations of innovation, collaboration and interoperability,” said Joe Barrett, President, Global mobile Suppliers Association. “As we see 5G connectivity transform more and more industries, the same ecosystem approach needs to be applied. We know from the growing number of 5G investments, deployments and launches that 5G is not only gaining traction but is doing so across many vertical markets through both public and private 5G networks. By joining forces, we want to deliver to the GSA and 5G-ACIA communities comprehensive, up-to-date and trusted information that supports the whole ecosystem with the shared insights they need to make decisions and maximise the 5G opportunity in their market.”

GAMBoD is fully available to all employees of GSA Executive and Ordinary Member companies and GSA Associates who subscribe to the service.

About 5G-ACIA
The 5G Alliance for Connected Industries and Automation (5G-ACIA) is the central global forum for shaping Industrial 5G. 5G-ACIA members jointly prepare for the disruptive changes that 5G will bring, promote a better understanding of industrial needs, and gain insights into a highly attractive emerging market. 5G-ACIA provides a unique platform for OT and ICT companies, academia, and all relevant stakeholders to influence 5G developments, in line with industrial imperatives. The currently roughly 100 member organizations make the results of their work directly available to 3GPP, the main standardization body for developing 5G. 5G-ACIA is a market representation partner of 3GPP and has the formal status of a working party of ZVEI e.V. About GSA
GSA is the voice of the global mobile ecosystem representing companies engaged in the supply of infrastructure, semiconductors, test equipment, devices, applications and mobile support services. The organisation plays a central role in promoting 3GPP technology, advocating spectrum policies and stimulating IMT industry development. The association is a single source of information for industry reports and market intelligence.
The GSA GAMBoD database is a unique search and analysis tool that has been developed to enable searches of LTE and 5G devices and new global data on Mobile Broadband Networks, Technologies and Spectrum (NTS). Results are presented as a list or in charts. Charts may be inserted into documents or presentations, subject to accreditation of GSA as the source.
